Donate to Support
PS 56

At PS56, we believe that every student deserves a robust and stimulating educational experience. The NYC Department of Education allocates funds to each public school based on enrollment, but it’s simply not enough to give our children what our teachers, administrators, and parents know they deserve.

We raised $99,000 during the 2022-2023 school year and it’s time to show our school we can do even better!

DOE budget cuts for school programming dropped from $460,000 in 2021-2022 to $60,000 in 2022-2023. We need your help to bridge the gap so we can continue providing music and art enrichment residencies for every classroom, teacher classroom supplies, field trips, clubs, substitute teachers and more.

In an effort to be upfront about asks in the coming year, there will be 3 times we plan to appeal for direct donations:

  1. The annual appeal (Start of school year)

  2. Giving Tuesday (November 21, 2023)

  3. Teacher/administration/staff holiday gifts (December 2023)

Staff Holiday Gift Fund 2023

We're committed to promoting equity and support for all teachers and staff. To that end, for the past several years, we have asked parents to donate to our pooled holiday gift fund to better distribute holiday gifts evenly for all 61 teachers and staff. Please use the link below by Sunday, December 10th for a monetary donation.

Reading Partners
$15,000

Reading Partners is a grant funded program that offers individualized, evidence-based programming for over 50 of our students from grades K-4 to develop foundational reading skills. While they cover $85,000 of the program cost, we need these funds to cover their daily involvement with students.

Theater and Language ~$20,000 each

We are actively researching theater and language programs for Spring.

Field Trips

Field Trips can cost anywhere from $400 to $1,250 per grade not including transportation costs.

How much should you give?

We know families have different abilities to give and are grateful for all contributions. Give more if you can and sponsor other families. Give less if you can’t and contribute in other ways. Every dollar counts and any amount adds up to something bigger for our kids!

As a reference point, our planned budget for this school year is ~$550/student.

  • Can you give $560 now as your contribution for the year?

  • Can you give $56 as a monthly contribution?

  • Can you give $5.60 as a monthly contribution?
