Screen Time

Elementary School Technology and Screen Time Policy

At our elementary school, we recognize the importance of technology as a valuable tool in enhancing the learning experience. Computers, laptops, tablets, and smartboards are integrated into our classrooms to support and enrich the instructional goals set by our teachers. These technologies are used primarily as teaching tools to facilitate active learning, engage students in meaningful inquiry, and support their research efforts. Our aim is to prepare students for the future by helping them develop the digital literacy skills necessary for success in the modern world.

In addition to supporting academic learning, we also use screens for wellness activities. These activities may include brain breaks, movement exercises, and educational games designed to keep students active and focused throughout the school day. The use of technology in this context is carefully monitored to ensure it promotes physical and mental well-being, providing students with a balanced and healthy approach to their education. We believe that screen time should be purposeful and interactive. Therefore, screens are not used for passive viewing of videos. Instead, when videos are incorporated into the curriculum, they are used to initiate conversation, provoke thoughtful inquiry, and support the overall learning process. Our goal is to ensure that screen time contributes to a dynamic and engaging educational environment, rather than simply serving as a form of entertainment. If a movie is planned as part of a celebration or special event, we are committed to ensuring that families are informed in advance. These events will be limited throughout the school year, and the selection of movies will be carefully considered to align with our educational values. We encourage parental involvement and welcome feedback on these activities to maintain a strong partnership between home and school. Overall, our technology and screen time policy is designed to ensure that digital tools are used effectively to enhance student learning while also promoting their overall well-being. By maintaining a balanced approach to technology use, we strive to create a supportive and enriching educational environment that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Green Team Guidance

The Green Team seeks to reduce the environmental impact of school-wide events by offering the following guidance to minimize single-use products; opt for used and reused goods when possible; shop locally when used or reused isn’t an option; increase recycling and composting; and offer lower-impact food options.
