Enrichment Programs
PS 56 offers a stimulating and arts based enrichment program during the school day. In collaboration with the PTA, we’re exploring expanding these offerings to ensure students experience a variety of enrichment opportunities that celebrate their strengths and interests.
Studio in a School
Studio in a School provides visual arts programs taught by artists for students from Pre-K to college, in New York City and beyond. Artists, educators, and students work together in partnerships ranging from six weeks to several years. These partnerships provide students with avenues to explore and develop their creative potential.
Suzi Shelton’s Community through Music
Suzi Shelton is an award-winning NYC singer/songwriter and YouTube host who has been bringing joy and musical fun to children and families for over a decade. She provides music programming for our Pre-K through 2nd grade for the past 5 years. Suzi’s music celebrates diversity, inclusion and kindness.
Little Orchestra Society Musical Connections
The School Partnership Program is the premier music education program at The Little Orchestra Society. Students in NYC public elementary schools work collaboratively and learn to compose their own new music, which is performed by professional musicians. L.O.S. engages teachers and parents to help emphasize creativity and communication.
S'Cool Sounds
S’Cool Sounds (SCS) provides hands-on music instruction for children through classroom teaching, after school programs, and community events. SCS programs emphasize cross-cultural musical training within an ensemble setting. Students learn to play recorders, percussion, ukulele, and violin, quickly coming together into vibrantly functioning musical ensembles that remain accessible to any level of training.
Teaching materials focus on regional and world music, with elementary-aged students learning to play Afro-Cuban rhythms, African children’s songs, or a Swedish midsummer festival song as part of an eclectic variety of pieces.
